Following the Information Commissioner’s Office’s (ICO) announcement stating that it intends to fine social media giant TikTok £27m for breaching childrens’ privacy rights, Sian tells Cybernews that the intended fine “serves as a stark warning to other global tech companies which process large volumes of children’s data.”
Sian points out that given that the announcement came exactly one year after the ICO introduced the Children’s Code, it was “perhaps timely that the ICO is currently taking action against one of the big tech giants and so is being seen to proactively protect children’s personal data.”
