Payne Hicks Beach secures substantial financial award in the High Court for Lady Barclay

Payne Hicks Beach, in a case led by pre-eminent family partner Baroness Shackleton, achieved a widely reported and substantial award for its client Lady Barclay in High Court financial remedy proceedings before Mr Justice Cohen. The team included Fiona Brown(Consultant), Nick Manners (Partner) and Joshua Moger (Senior Associate) of the firm’s leading Family department.

Mr Justice Cohen awarded Lady Barclay £100m, when he found that Sir Frederick Barclay’s offer could have amounted to “nothing” in a judgment that included serious criticisms of Sir Frederick.

The published judgment can be found here: https://www.bailii.org/cgi-bin/format.cgi?doc=/ew/cases/EWFC/HCJ/2021/40.html&query=(barclay).

Payne Hicks Beach instructed Stewart Leech QC of Queen Elizabeth Buildings and Richard Sear of 1 Hare Court throughout the long running case, which began over two years ago.
