The new bill tabled in parliament seeks to allow tenants to challenge landlords on substandard properties without having to fear retaliatory and unfair eviction as it eliminates section 21 ‘no fault’ evictions. However, landlords will be disadvantaged unless the court system is upgraded to allow them to swiftly repossess properties where tenants are at fault.
