OWENS V OWENS
In March 2021 we secured an award for Lady Barclay after a 34 year marriage which provided for Sir Frederick to make two payments to her totalling £100M. £50M was due in June 2021 and the second tranche of £50M was due in April 2022. Sir Frederick was criticised by the court for his “reprehensible” behaviour due to his conduct within the proceedings and since the orders were made has failed to honour his obligations requiring Lady Barclay to continue litigation to seek the money he has been ordered to pay to her. We have continued to support Lady Barclay leading Sir Jonathan Cohen in his judgment of July 2022 to remark, “I cannot leave without paying tribute to W’s solicitors and counsel. They have repeatedly appeared when no funds are available to pay their fees as a result of H’s breaches of court orders. They say that as a matter of honour they cannot leave W unrepresented in the court. That is very much to their credit and I hope an example to others in this case.”
