From Spoliated Art Restitution to Colonial Loot Repatriation

Our Art and Cultural Property Law specialist Till Vere-Hodge explored the challenges associated with restitution claims at an event organised by the British Institute of International and Comparative Law, entitled: “From Spoliated Art Restitution to Colonial Loot Repatriation: Lessons Learnt and Ways Forward” Drawing from both, claims concerned with WWII-looted art, as well as more recent subjects such as so-called “colonial-looted art”, the panel discussion identified some lessons to be learnt,, as well as ongoing challenges associated with restitution claims, including provenance research and the legal barriers faced by claimants.
