Luke-Scarratt

Luke read Theology at Durham University, before attending law school in London and joining Payne Hicks Beach in 2015. He was taken on as a newly qualified solicitor by the Family Department in 2017, and promoted to a Senior Associate in 2023.

During his time at PHB, he has worked most for Baroness Shackleton and Ben Parry-Smith. In recent years, Luke has been consistently recommended by The Legal 500 UK as a “Key Lawyer”, commenting that “Luke Scarratt is a junior well worth a mention. He is intelligent, strategic, and hard working. Definitely a name for the future.”

Luke recognises that each family is unique and accordingly that each case requires a bespoke approach. Guided by the principle of fairness, and working with his brilliant colleagues at PHB, Luke seeks to resolve disputes in a civilised and consensual manner. However, Luke is conscious that consensus is sometimes impossible to achieve, and therefore the court’s determination will be required to bring matters to a head. In that context, Luke has experience in almost any court arena – from dealing with child arrangements in a local county court, to being part of the team representing HRH Princess Haya in the Court of Appeal.

Luke’s work represents the full spectrum of family law work: divorce, finances, children, relocation, same-sex couples, cohabitation issues, and nuptial agreements. There are often international elements to his caseload – particularly in relation to offshore trusts.

Luke writes widely on his work, and has been published in the New Law Journal. His articles touch on family businesses, parental alienation, the treatment of trusts on divorcethe loss of mental capacity and prenuptial agreements.

Outside of work, Luke most enjoys the company of his wife and their rescue dog, Maggie.
